Application and Selection of Tungsten electrodes
Ceriated tungsten electrodes are environmentally friendly products without radioactive contamination. It can start arc easily with very small current, and the dimension arc current is also small. Ceriated-tungsten electrodes are very popular under low current DC conditions, especially for pipeline and small parts welding, intermittent welding and a specific number of welding.
Thoriated tungsten electrode has excellent comprehensive performance and can withstand overload current. It is the most widely used tungsten electrode in the United States and other countries. Thoriated-tungsten electrodes are usually used for direct current welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloy and titanium metal.
Lanthanated tungsten electrode has excellent welding performance, and its conductivity is closest to 2% thoriated tungsten electrode. It has no radioactive hazard. Welders can easily replace thoriated tungsten electrode with this electrode without changing any welding procedure.
Zirconiated tungsten electrode has good performance with AC condition. It can keep spherical shape and arc is more stable than pure tungsten electrode when welding. Zirconiated tungsten electrode also has good corrosion resistance. Zirconiated tungsten electrode is suitable for AC welding of Mg-Al and its alloys.
Pure tungsten electrode is suitable for welding magnesium, aluminium and their alloys under AC conditions.
